We want to help all of the children at Cheeky Monkeys achieve their full potential in a fun and stimulating way. We know that children learn best by playing and enjoying themselves whilst interacting with their environment and peers.

Each child is allocated a key worker who will provide a point of contact for parents to discuss their child’s progress and any concerns or special requests that they have. The key worker will plan a programme for each child and create individual targets which can be used to monitor how the child is progressing. The key worker will take into account the child’s individual learning style and tailor activities that will appeal to them to help them develop as much as they can.

The Early Years Foundation Stage sets out the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five and we use the seven key areas from this to develop a curriculum for each child to help them achieve their full potential.

The prime areas begin to develop quickly in response to relationships and experiences, and run through and support learning in all other areas. They include:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development

  • The specific areas include essential skills and knowledge. They grow out of the prime areas and provide important contexts for leaning. They include:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

  • With children aged 0 to 5 years we particularly concentrate on the prime areas and engage them in activities where they develop in all these areas.

The ways in which children engage with other people and their environment, by playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically, underpin learning and development across all areas.

Regular observations are carried out, and reviewed to see if your child is meeting the goals set out in the EYFS. If they are not, then we will discuss with you whether we feel any additional help is needed to help them develop further.

Our friendly staff and environment really help the children to excel in their learning and development. Whilst the seven areas above might seem a lot for young children to undertake they are naturals at this and a huge amount can be learnt through play.
